Booty Beauty Supports Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) hits close to home for The Booty Co., that’s why we have chosen to support research towards a cure.

Everyday another Australian, a person, suffers a spinal cord injury with more than 15,000 Australians (and millions around the world) living with a spinal cord injury, costing the Australian economy more than 2 billion dollars each year.

The most common causes for a SCI are sudden traumatic blows to the spine. Road Accidents a make up 39% of all injuries, falls make up 38%, water related make up 8%, with horse riding and football among other unspecified incidents making up the rest. Around 80% of spinal cord injuries are males with 21% aged between 25-34 years old.

A damaged spinal cord not only means losing control of your muscles but also deprives you of sensations of touch, pleasure, and pressure, the control of your bladder and bowel, and sometimes the ability to breathe unaided. Those with spinal cord injury often suffer constant burning, itching and neuropathic pain in some areas of the body where they have no feeling or movement.

Spinal Cord Injury medicine is relatively new, having only been properly studied for the last 20 years, while there is no cure there are breakthroughs starting to emerge across Australia and the world. Here at The Booty Co., we believe a cure will be possible with more funding and research. We have chosen to be apart of that by contributing $5 from each sale towards Neura Australia.

NeuRA is an independent, not-for-profit, medical research institute dedicated to improving the lives of people living with nervous system disorders such as spinal cord injury. Shopping with us will help support NeuRA scientists to continue making life-changing discoveries that contribute to a better quality of life for people with Spinal Cord Injury and gets them closer to curing such nervous system disorders. Alternatively you can donate directly to NeuRA via their website.
